Dear video game fans in the Giant Bomb forums

Here are my thoughts on the video game industry in 2024 so far:

What I like:

  • Le Mans Ultimate gets updates and DLCs
  • Assetto Corsa Evo gets announced
  • Automobilista 2 gets more DLCs including IMSA content
  • iRacing gets more new content
  • Forza Motorsport 2023 and Gran Turismo 7 are both getting more updates
  • The Crew Motorfest gets map expansion and DLC
  • Forza Horizon 5 gets more updates
  • New Aero Fighters/Sonic Wings installment announced: Sonic Wings Reunion
  • Conspit debuted in the Sim Racing industry (Consists of peripherals like Wheelbases, Steering Wheels, Pedals, Cockpits & many other accessories)
  • Moza Racing debuted their flight sim peripherals
  • Guilty Gear gets an anime adaption for 2025
  • Tekken 8 is well received and getting new DLCs

What I dislike:

  • Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 has so many bugs
  • There is no news about Gran Turismo 7 coming to PC
  • There is no news about the main BlazBlue series these days and still no new anime adaption to be based on Chrono Phantasma and Central Fiction
  • No new Soul Calibur installment
  • Original The Crew's servers ended without releasing an offline patch
  • PlayStation 5 Pro is overpriced
  • Xbox Series X's upgraded variant is not yet announced

Sidenote: Now, I'm still curious about what 2025 for the video game industry will be like, so I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I think any opinion I might have about the games themselves is so tainted by the endless stream of firings and corporate dumbfuckery that I can't offer a fair opinion. I think we're in an industry-shaking era similar to the early eighties that's going to be talked about for decades to come, though I also think indies have never shone brighter. I'm also not sure how much of my dissatisfaction with games in 2024 isn't just my general malaise of the soul about the year in other regards. It's hard to disassociate all that internally. But on the plus side, the bar for making 2025 a good year for games (and the world in general) is now so fucking low that a few decent AA or AAA releases will undoubtedly make me a hollier, jollier person this time of the year next year.

2024 has been an exciting year for gaming with so many updates and new releases. Games like Forza Motorsport and Gran Turismo 7 continuing to get updates have been highlights for me. On the flip side, I agree that issues like bugs in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and the lack of news on Gran Turismo 7 for PC have been disappointing. Overall, it’s been a mixed bag, but the progress in sim racing and fighting games like Tekken 8 really stands out.

not bad! i played a ton of games, and while only a relatively small amount were from 2024, they included:

  • dragon's dogma 2
  • astrobot
  • balatro
  • erdtree (i guess?)
  • the plucky squire

pretty good diversity of stuff, can't complain really. there's always something good out there.

I barely played any 2024 releases this year, and only one of which wasn't an early access cheap indie game. At some point I'll play Metaphor, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and maybe the new Like a Dragon when they are on sale with slightly deeper discounts, but other than that, I didn't play much. If it wasn't for Square, Sega/Atlus, and Capcom, I'd probably have zero interest in new non-indie games.

This year was also the year where I fully crossed over into playing mostly old games (last year was an even split of new and old. This year is like 90% old, 10% new, though a big part of that 10% new was Persona 3 Reload, a remake of one of my favourite PS2 games from 2006). I spent far more time playing games from the PS2 era and earlier than I did playing anything from the last five years. I'm pretty burnt out on shooters and open world games which eliminates a huge portion of mainstream releases from being interesting to me unfortunately. Even next year, the only game on the horizon I'm interested in is Monster Hunter. In a weird way, I'm kind of okay with all this. With how awful the game industry is becoming, it's becoming easier and easier for me to decouple myself from the industry and not feel bad about ignoring it. I'll just keep focusing on my JRPGs and indies and that's that.

On the bright side at least, I found a ton of new old games that I love and enjoyed playing a ton, including a couple that are now in my top 5 for all-time favourite games.

What I like about this year in games:

  • Indies kicking ass while AAA crapping the bed.

What I didn't like about this year in games:

  • What happened to the people working on the AAA game after it craps the bed.

Don't know whether I like or don't like about this year in games:

  • How much I got back into World of Warcraft after roughly 15 years away from it.

As 2024 comes to a close, video games continue to be a powerhouse of entertainment, blending immersive storytelling, advanced graphics, and innovative gameplay. From massive RPGs to quick, casual games, the diversity in gaming caters to all preferences. Daman Game, for instance, has added its own twist to the gaming world by offering exciting prediction games and casino-style experiences with real rewards. It's a reminder of how gaming not only entertains but also creates opportunities for strategy and fun. The future looks bright for gamers, with endless possibilities and innovations on the horizon!

I was able to play a decent amount of good games in 2024, the latest being the new Indiana Jones game just released. But I haven't played nearly as many games that came out this year like I normally do. Out of all the years on this site, thinking of Top 10 isn't going to be easy. I might just settle for my first Top 5.

I think things are the same as previous year. There were good and bad games. We had such good games as FF VII Rebirth and LaD Infinite Wealth, as well as Animal Well and other games.

I can't say that 2024 has been the best gaming year so far. I played some good games, but also some games which I didn't like at all. I liked Stalker a lot. I opened a new genre for myself - horror games, and I've played a few, which I loved a lot. A new Silent Hill is a great game, for example. I'm really looking forward to the releases in 2025.
