This sportier Prelude was launched in 1991, with the body expanded to 1,765 mm wide, and a more accentuated low-slung shape. Both are 2.2-litre inline 4-cylinder DOHC engines, but the basic grade Si's F22B delivers 160 PS and 20.5 kgm, while the sports grade Si-VTEC's H22A engine packs in 200 PS and 22.3 kgm. Transmission is available in 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic for each car. The double-wishbone suspension was further refined, and the 4-wheel steering was retained, and it gives a thrilling drive with a natural feel. The Si's 160 PS engine moves through the ranges smoothly, and gives a well-balanced drive, the Si-VTEC providing even more stimulation. The engine surges through to the high range in a flash. The body size is a worry on winding roads, but it's a comfortable drive.
