I had a wallet which was really useful for keeping cards (with a Samsung/Android phone), but the hand-me-down iPhone I now have came with a slim case which is just a rubber sleeve so it's easy to grip but doesn't have room for cards. I've tried both styles and prefer the grip of both over not dropping it. Both naked phones were really slippery.

Pro with the card case is that it protects the screen, but the cons are extra size and that the flap will sometimes try to obscure the camera if you don't hold it aside when in portrait mode. Pro of the rubber sleeve is ease of access, but the con is extra fingermarks, also accidentally sliding the screen up which costs battery power, and no screen protection.

In short I wouldn't be without a case of either type, another reason is that waiting for a replacement phone is a pain in the ass.
